Work Meetings

Have you ever experienced those days when it seems all you do is go from one meeting to another? That was my day yesterday. It started with the first meeting at 8:00 am and didn't end until amost 6:00 pm.

How are we suppose to get any work done and take care of the action items that come out of those meetings. No wonder I see people all the time driving and working on their blackberries. Do you ever go home after work and once or twice a night hop on your work email account to catch up? I know I do.

I have developed this habbit - don't know if it is good or bad - but I always check my work email about one or two hours after I get home to make sure nothing else is needed of me. I will then check it before I go to bed and once I get up in the morning before heading into work. This way I can have an idea of what is waiting for me when I get into the office.

I can only imagine what it must be like to have a job where there isn't rows of cubes with computers, fax machines, and urgent staff work that is needed yesterday. Do individuals who have non-desk jobs enjoy thier job more? Do they feel less pressure or do they still have the same knee-jerk taskings they have to respond.

I was just out in Colorado, west of Denver, and went up Mt. Evans a 14K ft. mountain. It was beautiful at the top. When we arrived at the summit - there were Colorado Park Rangers there walking around, making sure everyone was ok, and telling visitors about the views being experienced for the first time....what mountain am I looking at? How far can I really see? How high up are we? Is that really a mountain goat? What is that in the road? (A Marmot)

To be away from the 9-5 desk job can at times seem like a dream job. That only leads to the obvious question....is the grass green on the other side or is it just an illusion?

All I know is I have 4 more meetings scheduled that I have to attend before I can go home and enjoy the weekend Friday at 5:00 pm, not including any of the others that might "pop up".
